Our New Play Festival Story

Actors Dan Lauria and Wendie Malick, fans of Durango, inspired a small group of local performing arts lovers to start a new theatre festival in Southwest Colorado that would create a space for playwrights to develop new plays with professional actors and directors. At the end of the weeklong summer festival, these artists will present their works in an intimate experience and window into the creative process. Throughout the week, audiences are invited to engage with the artists through panels, social gatherings, performances and post-show talkbacks in a theatre arts festival that invites audiences from near and far to experience Durango, Colorado as a home for new work and an emerging voice in American Theatre.

Our Performing Arts Mission

To attract theatre artists to Durango, nurture new plays, and engage the community by delighting and challenging them as participants to the creative process.

Arts are a Key to our Core Values

Arts are essential.
Arts enliven the spirit of the community.
Arts broaden our thinking and perspective.
Arts feed the imagination and expand what makes us human.

The Process

Professional playwrights, actors and directors, from around the country, will spend one week in Durango, Colorado working on new plays, culminating in public, ticketed staged readings.
