Actors Journal – JK Simmons

J.K. Simmons won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award and a BAFTA Award for his unnerving portrayal of the sadistic and perfectionist music instructor in Damien Chazelle’s drama Whiplash (2014). He is a prolific actor of stage, television and film. He got his start with the Seattle Repertory Theatre and appeared in several Broadway productions. He had starring roles in TV series such as The Closer, Counterpart, Oz, Law and Order, and Growing Up Fisher, and recurring roles on Brockmire, Veronica Mars and Goliath. He’s appeared in dozens of movies including Juno, Cider House Rules, For Love of the Game, and three Spiderman movies. Simmons is well-known as Professor Burke in the Farmers Insurance commercials.
