David has directed plays and operas in New York and around the country for over five decades. Notable past projects include the world premiere of Arthur Giron’s “Becoming Memories” at the Illusion Theatre in Minneapolis, with subsequent productions at Juilliard and Cornell University; “A Special Evening,” a bill of one-acts by Luigi Pirandello and Robert Pinget at Ensemble Studio Theatre; and the acclaimed off-Broadway production of “Breakfast with Mugabe” by Fraser Grace, which received a Best Play nomination from the Off-Broadway Alliance. David recently stepped down as the founding Director of Education at Manhattan Theatre Club after a 35-year tenure. He has taught acting and directing at the University of Pennsylvania, Carnegie Mellon University, Brooklyn College, and Sarah Lawrence College, theatre history at Southern Connecticut State University, and theatre education at CCNY and Columbia University Teachers College. He holds an MFA in directing from the Yale School of Drama and has been a member of Ensemble Studio Theatre since 1981.
