Actors Journal – Tony Shalhoub

Home / Actors Journal – Tony Shalhoub

Tony Shalhoub’s most memorable role was as Adrian Monk, the obsessive-compulsive detective in the comedy series Monk, which ran for eight seasons. For that role, he won three Emmy awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Shalhoub graduated from the Yale School of Drama and spent four years with the American Repertory Theatre before moving to film and television. Although he is known for playing eccentric roles like Jeebs, the alien pawnbroker in the Men in Black films, he thinks of himself primarily as a stage actor who tries to stretch into characters who are very unlike himself.
